Student Equity Program

Free Driver’s Education for Underserved Communities in California

At Smart Driver, we believe that access to safe, quality driver education should never be limited by income, zip code, or background. Our Equity Access Program is a community-focused initiative that provides free access to our DMV-certified 30-hour online course for students from historically underserved communities across Southern California.

Who This Program Helps

  • Black, Latino, Indigenous, and other students of color
  • Low-income households
  • Immigrant and first-generation families
  • Foster youth and unhoused teens
  • Communities affected by systemic inequality
  • Title I Students
  • First Generation Students

Here's What’s Included

Students approved for Equity Access will receive:


  • Full access to our 30-hour California DMV-certified online driver’s education course
  • Certificate of Completion (DL 400C equivalent) for DMV testing
  • Support from the Smart Driver team 

How It Works

  1. Apply using our short Equity Access Form
  2. Get approved by our outreach team within 3–5 days
  3. Start learning on our platform — 100% free, no strings attached 
  4. Complete the course and earn your official DMV certificate
     

This program is built on trust and integrity. We do not collect payment information or engage in upselling. If you're eligible — you're in.

Eligibility

To qualify for Equity Access, applicants must:


  • Be age 15½–18 and a resident of California
  • Be from a historically underserved background (self-identified)
  • Have no current access to paid driver’s education
  • Commit to completing the course within 60 days
